The literary scholar Maude devoted to their studies of the poetess LaMotte. Similarly is the American student Roland Michell with the Victorian poet Ash. Together they encounter on a secret affair of the two poets. When she traces the relationship of passionate love they follow each other.
The Academy Award winner Gwyneth Paltrow plays in this film by Neil LaBute a literature scholar who through their joint research in an American student in love. The Roman-submission of Antonia S. Byatt won the Booker Prize.
